What is a stroke?

How does hirudin differ from heparin?
Natural hirudin is not affected by factors such as platelet factor 4 (PTF4) released by activated platelets or histidine-rich glycoproteins.
How is hirudin different from aspirin?
Mechanism of action: Hirudin inhibits thrombin activity by directly binding to thrombin and forming a stable non-covalent complex, thereby achieving an anticoagulant effect. At the same time, it also blocks thrombin-mediated fibrinogen coagulation, effectively preventing thrombus formation.
How does hirudin relieve rheumatism?
Hirudin can inhibit the activity of coagulation factor Xa, thereby reducing blood viscosity and improving blood circulation. In patients with rheumatic diseases, the blood often exhibits a hypercoagulable state, which may lead to poor local blood circulation in the joints, causing swelling and pain. The anticoagulant effect of hirudin helps alleviate this condition, thus relieving rheumatic symptoms.
The mechanism by which hirudin acts on thrombin
Hirudin is the most prominent and extensively studied active component among the various bioactive substances extracted from leeches and their salivary glands. It is a small-molecule polypeptide composed of 65 to 66 amino acids. Leeches are rich in hirudin, which exhibits an exceptionally potent inhibitory effect on thrombin—making it the strongest naturally occurring, thrombin-specific inhibitor discovered to date. Hirudin possesses remarkable anticoagulant and antithrombotic activities, holding great promise for clinical applications in the treatment and prevention of various types of thrombosis.
